Felix Mendelssohn was born on this day in 1809. Mendelssohn was a composer of the German 'Romantic generation.' His contributions to music are great and varied: He pioneered the concert overture genre as a freestanding orchestral piece, composed an abundance of chamber music, keyboard music, oratorios, concerti, as well as symphonies, and also revived an interest in the music of J.S. Bach. Happy Birthday, Mendelssohn!
