Did you know that Handel was in a duel?
In 1704 Handel was in a duel with his opera-pit companion and friend, Johann Mattheson.
As the legend goes, an argument over the seat of the conductor and continuo position in the pit led to a duel. Handel was struck by his opponent’s sword but was saved by the button on his coat.
