Gioachino Rossini was without a doubt the most famous living composer in Europe during the mid 1820s (even more so than Beethoven). Over the span of Rossini's career, he composed 39 operas—all of which he composed by the time he was about forty years old. Then, he suddenly ceased composing operas and didn't compose much else for the remaining forty years of his life. That's a pretty epic mic-drop. Unfortunately, the sudden decline in the composer's musical output was most likely caused by illness that tormented him for the remainder of his life. Gioachino Rossini remains one of the most celebrated opera composers in history.
