Happy Bastille Day to all of our friends in France!
On this day in 1795, The French National Convention accepted "La Marseillaise" as the country's first (and only) national anthem.
The music and lyrics were written by Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle in 1792 at the request of the mayor of Strasbourg, baron Philippe-Frédéric de Dietrich in order to rally the soldiers from all over France to defend their homeland.
