Today is National Aviation Day. August 19th marks the birth of Orville Wright.

The Wright brothers pioneered aviation in the United States and Orville Wright was the first person to successfully fly an airplane. The successful flight took place on December 17, 1903.

Here are a few works composed with an aviation-inspiration:

Marc Blitzstein - "Airborne" Symphony
Scored for narrator, vocal soloists, male chorus, and orchestra, the "Airborne" symphony explores the history of human flight. Following Blitzstein's tenure in the U.S. Air Force, he was commissioned to compose the score to a film about the history of aviation.
