Popular music history app now available for Android as well as for iOS

NEW YORK, NY— Informusic (http://www.informusic.org/) is proud to announce that its popular and critically acclaimed music history app is now available for Android devices! Originally launched in the Fall of 2016 for iOS, the app is now available for a wide array of mobile devices on both Android and iOS.
“We’re really delighted to be able to offer the Informusic music history app for our users on the Android platform,” comments Informusic founder Drew Schweppe. “After overwhelming demand, our development team worked incredibly hard to create the Android version in just six months, and the result is that Informusic can now be truly enjoyed for study or entertainment on virtually any Android or iOS mobile device.”
Informusic is the essential app for classical music fans, musicians, students and teachers alike. It spotlights centuries of essential music history facts, figures and samples within a streamlined and useful mobile app that enables students and teachers to take that information with them anywhere they go. Informusic was created by Drew Schweppe, and carefully refined over a five- year period alongside an expert team of leading musicologists, performers, professors, and historians. The app provides an expansive amount of useful, fascinating and quickly accessible information on Western Art Music’s greatest composers and compositions, from the Medieval era, through the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic eras – and with more expansions constantly in the works. Informusic’s most useful features include composer biographies, quick facts, and lists of complete works, as well as program notes, sheet music, audio samples, and suggested further scholarship.
Informusic also goes beyond simple facts, however, as it also features interactive timelines that

allow students to make connections between the music they learn in Band, Orchestra, Chorus & Music Appreciation or Theory and other art, historical, political, or cultural milestones (bridging the classical music world with whatever they may be studying in Social Studies, Art, English, Science, and more). Users can also search Informusic with ease, by year, event type, or specific keywords.

Purchase Info and Technical Requirements:
Informusic is now accessible for almost any current mobile device, as it’s compatible with Android devices, as well as with iOS devices such as the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch (requiring iOS 8.0 or later). Informusic is currently priced at $2.99 for iOS at the Apple iTunes Store, at https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/informusic/id1015896668?mt=8, and at a special introductory price of $.99 at Google Play (for a limited time), at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.informusic. We're happy to add Buxtehude to our ever-expanding roster of composers! Not familiar with him? Here's your Buxtehude cheatsheet.

In: c. 1637/39—Helsingborg, Skåne, Denmark (present-day Sweden) or Oldesloe, Holstein, Denmark (present-day Germany)
Out: 9 May 1707—Lübeck, Schleswig-Holstein (present-day Germany)

Composed: oratorios, vocal concerti, arias, chorales, sacred cantatas, keyboard works (organ &  harpsichord), chamber music

Buxtehude was a central composer of Germany's Baroque Era. He is best known for his organ works but made significant contributions to many genres during his lifetime. His work in Lübeck, most notably, the Abendmusik concert series, attracted musicians from across the German states: Handel, Mattheson, and even J.S. Bach attended Buxtehude's concerts.

In addition to Buxtehude's musical contributions, his career path as city music director influenced the careers of subsequent Baroque composers such as Handel, Telemann, and J.S. Bach.

The Passacaglia in D minor BuxWV 161 is one of Buxtehude's most important and well known works. Enjoy the inventive performance by Informusic featured artist Dr. Leon W. Couch III below. For more information about Buxtehude, and the importance of this Passacaglia, check out his profile on the app!

Felix Mendelssohn was born on this day in 1809. Mendelssohn was a composer of the German 'Romantic generation.' His contributions to music are great and varied: He pioneered the concert overture genre as a freestanding orchestral piece, composed an abundance of chamber music, keyboard music, oratorios, concerti, as well as symphonies, and also revived an interest in the music of J.S. Bach. Happy Birthday, Mendelssohn!

Happy Birthday, Wolfgang!

Johannes Chrysostomus Wolfgang Gottlieb Mozart was born on this day in 1756. Mozart is probably the most recognized name in classical music so we won't take up too much of your time talking about his gambling, prolific musical output, or dismissal from the Salzburg court but instead, here are two things you might not know about Mozart.

Mozart met J.C. Bach in London in 1764 and was greatly influenced by him.

In Mozart's final years, his debts grew and his success waned. The Austro-Turkish War made it difficult for musicians in Vienna to receive aristocratic sponsorship. For these reasons Mozart was forced to search for work in Germany and ultimately moved his family from the city of Vienna to an outside suburb.

Now go and enjoy your Mozart celebrations. Happy Birthday Wolfgang!

For more information about Mozart's life and music and how political events and interactions with fellow musicians shaped his works, check out his full profile in the app.

We'd highly recommend their podcast about Antonín Dvořák, "Czech, Please." We especially like this episode because it puts Dvořák's influence in America into perspective while also contextualizing the rise of African American music as well. Happy Listening!
